HOW TO GROW DAYLILIES: Daylilies are very easy-to-grow. They like a lot of sun and they like a lot of water. For more information on how to care for daylilies, click here.
WHAT DAYLILIES CAN I GROW: Most of you can grow any of the daylilies we sell. If you live in an area with a sustained cold period like we do in East Tennessee, you can grow all the varieties. However, If you live in an area that doesn’t get freezing weather in the winter (like zones 9 and 10), dormant varieties won’t work for you; you’ll need to choose evergreen or semi-evergreen varieties.

BIG PLANTS! When it comes to daylily plants, bigger is better! All of the plants we ship will be three fans or larger — two or three times (or more) what you might receive from other companies. Larger plants get established faster and bloom more quickly!

FARM-FRESH TO YOU! All of your plants will be freshly dug when you order. The leaves are trimmed and the plants are washed and air-dried. Your daylilies will be out of the ground less than 48 hours before they’re headed your way.

BONUS DAYLILIES: We send free daylilies (we call them “bonus” daylilies) with every order. These daylilies are equal to about 20% of your order, you get to choose what you’d like at checkout.

ABOUT US: Oakes Daylilies is a family-owned daylily farm that’s been in business for three generations. Our daylilies grow in home gardens, city parks and botanical gardens across the nation– including Hawaii and Canada. We are known in the industry as Daylily Experts and grow over 1000 varieties of daylilies on nearly 70 acres in East Tennessee. But over 50 years ago, we started just like you—with one daylily in a home garden.

This is one of the most beautiful daylilies in my garden. The color is so deep and rich. I live in North Florida in zone 9 and it performs in the hot sun beautifully. It is in the side yard so walkers can enjoy it too. My plant is fairly young, so I am looking forward to a lot more blooms next year. The plant is very healthy and has multiplied a lot.

  2. Really great plan if you love dark daylilies!

    Elyce (Peterson) Cripps

Consistently dark, beautiful and has really strong scapes. This daylily is really steadfast as far as color. Just as gorgeous in the morning as it is in the afternoon. The blooms are a really deep, dark purple with a red tinge. Reminds me of a plumb (in color). Foliage is really strong and lush too!

  3. Beyond Gorgeous!

We just love this daylily and we have over 250, so that says quite a lot! Loved so much we planted over 20 of just this one. A reliable rebloomer here in East Texas. We always receive lots of compliments even from people walking by! Stunning! Everyone should have a few of these!!! Great as a statement plant or for mid/back of the border or by the sidewalk where it can be enjoyed. Thank you Oakes!!

Quite tall scapes, generous bloomer with substantial, sturdy flowers. Excellent color that stands up to the sun. One of my favorite purchases.

I ordered 1 plant in 2008. The color is absolutely beautiful and produces very strong scapes. One of my favorites!

This is one of my all-time favorite flowers! And that says a lot comming from a gardner of 30+ years who grows all sorts of flowers, not just daylilies. If you are looking for a rich, velvet, stunning flower this is the one. Even here in our hot, dry NM climate it looks like something from a lush rainforest with it’s rich burgandy-purple tones and substance. I grow it in partial shade here in the desert. I grow dozens of verieties of daylilies and this one is tops.

This is a spectacularly beautiful daylily. While it hasn’t had as many blooms as some in my garden, the ones it has had were worth the space. Paired with Grape Velvet or El Desperado is quite the sight.
