HOW TO GROW DAYLILIES: Daylilies are very easy-to-grow. They like a lot of sun and they like a lot of water. For more information on how to care for daylilies, click here.
WHAT DAYLILIES CAN I GROW: Most of you can grow any of the daylilies we sell. If you live in an area with a sustained cold period like we do in East Tennessee, you can grow all the varieties. However, If you live in an area that doesn’t get freezing weather in the winter (like zones 9 and 10), dormant varieties won’t work for you; you’ll need to choose evergreen or semi-evergreen varieties.

BIG PLANTS! When it comes to daylily plants, bigger is better! All of the plants we ship will be three fans or larger — two or three times (or more) what you might receive from other companies. Larger plants get established faster and bloom more quickly!

FARM-FRESH TO YOU! All of your plants will be freshly dug when you order. The leaves are trimmed and the plants are washed and air-dried. Your daylilies will be out of the ground less than 48 hours before they’re headed your way.

BONUS DAYLILIES: We send free daylilies (we call them “bonus” daylilies) with every order. These daylilies are equal to about 20% of your order, you get to choose what you’d like at checkout.

ABOUT US: Oakes Daylilies is a family-owned daylily farm that’s been in business for three generations. Our daylilies grow in home gardens, city parks and botanical gardens across the nation– including Hawaii and Canada. We are known in the industry as Daylily Experts and grow over 1000 varieties of daylilies on nearly 70 acres in East Tennessee. But over 50 years ago, we started just like you—with one daylily in a home garden.

  1. Flutterbye

I have had Flutterbye growing in my garden for several years now – and while I enjoy seeing it bloom every year – I have to say that Flutterbye was particularly stunning this year. I just love this lavender purple daylily!

I planted this daylily in late May 2021 and it bloomed soon thereafter on June 14th. I couldn’t believe how quickly it sprang to life! The purple color is spectacular. I should add though that the color had faded greatly by the end of the day due to the hot sun (zone 7a), so perhaps this one would fare better with some shade.

My yard is tough–amended clay, but clay is tough. This is a daylily that still performs well, meaning it is spreading and blooming well. I’ve had it 3 years, and flowers are really lovely purply-mauve, 4 and 5 at a time, over a long season (July and into August now).. Flowers do fade in sun by end of day, but still very pretty.

First blooms 6/11/15 in a pot on the deck where I trial new daylilies to keep them from deer. Bloomed a wonderful shade of pinky violet. Flowers were beautiful all day. This is one I’ll definitely spray with deer repellent when it goes into the yard. Absolutely gorgeous! First flower that didn’t veer toward peach in my many deck trials. All my daylilies are from Oakes because theirs are the best!!

I found that my Flutterbyes also were a little darker than the photos, as another reviewer stated. I have very clay soil and lots of heat and humidity here. They bloomed well and had beautiful color and form.

Planted Flutterbye in a new garden along with 11 other new colors on 6/4/14. Today on 6/28/14 Flutterbye it is already blooming with several others sending up scapes! Can only imagine how yummy all these new daylilies will be by next season. Love, love, love the quality, size of plants and super customer service Oakes provides. Will never buy another daylily anywhere else.

I got this one last spring. It was a good size clump. It bloomed in it’s first year like some do in their second and third years 5-6 scapes. The color in my garden was more lavender purple and the white edge was more pronounced. It was the most spectacular daylily I have seen!!!! It was the biggest surprise of the season. I had purchased Indian Giver for that kind of wow factor and this gem blew it away! The cooler summers of the North change the colors of daylilies (usually darkens the color) For those of you north of the Mason Dixon line give it a try. The only problem was my fault I thought it was taller than it is and it’s beauty was hidden behind an exceptionally tall patch of Yarrow. I will move it to a place of prominance this spring.

I received Flutterbye as my bonus plant from Oakes this spring and was slightly skeptical. Never again! This beauty bloomed for me for the first time this morning and is absolutely gorgeous! The pictures do not do it justice. Definitely a must-have for anyone that likes pink/lavender flowers!

Definitely my favorite in my collection thus far. I agree color is impacted by weather. And all shades of pink and lavender are striking.
