    Good as gold

    Lynette Woods

Buttered Popcorn is an excellent daylily. I planted several on the outer border of a flower bed 3 years ago. I left space between each plant hoping the plant would multiply filling in the space. I was not disappointed. The plants multiplied in no time and now I have a solid edge of these good as gold day lilies. I love the color, very bright and cheery, and the blooming period lasts for several weeks. There were excessive spring rains this year which brought the day lilies into an earlier blooming season. I have been able to thin the plants, at only 3 years, to plant in other areas of the gardens.

    Loverly! This butter doesn't melt!

    Pat McClenan

I love this variety because it really takes the Zone 8b heat. The thick petals don’t fade or shrivel in hot sun or radiant heat. The blooms are sturdy, lasting more than a day. The big, true yellow flowers scream “LOOK AT ME!”

    Best of the Best

Buttered Popcorn is the most success I have ever had growing daylilies, and I’ve grown a lot with varying degrees of joy. I received it as part of a group of rebloomers, I think. It did OK last year but this year—–started in April, long before the last frost in our zone 5b, and actually bloomed at the beginning of May! It has been blooming ever since and getting better every day. Huge, showy flowers in a stunning buttery gold. The plant itself is 33″ and the flowers are 6.5″. My daughter, who is not such a fan of yellow flowers, suggested I buy 100 and cover our whole hillside. Absolutely gorgeous and the star of my daylily garden.

Zone 5 in Omaha Nebraska. I ordered a Butter popcorn last September and this morning on July 3rd it bloomed a big bright yellow bloom..It has 5 scrapes and many buds on each scrape and each one is loaded with buds. It is a very beautiful bright yellow and I wish I had ordered a couple more. If you like a bright yellow this is the one to order.. I give buttered Popcorn 5 stars.

What is your hardiness zone? Zone 7

I bought two of these plants at the daylily festival last summer. It was several days before I finally made it back home to put them in the ground and I was worried about their survival. Imagine my surprise when just a few weeks later I had one scape and 1-2 small blooms from each of my plants! I was excited to see what this summer would bring! Well, to say that these two first-year plants did well is an understatement!!!! One of them put up 13 scapes with an average of 7-8 blooms per scape!!! That’s probably around 100 blooms just from that one plant!!!!! The other put up nine scapes and also averaged 7-8 blooms per scape!!!! It has been absolutely incredible!!! They have been blooming for a month and every day I have had multiple giant blooms to enjoy! Buttered Popcorn, in my opinion, is a must-have daylily for zone 7! Mine are not even planted in full sun… they get morning sun and afternoon shade. Thank you, Oakes for your healthy, high-quality plants!

If you are looking for a big, neon gold daylily, this is the one. I got 1 plant 5 years ago, and I now have 5-6 big clumps. It blooms pretty much nonstop from mid summer to fall. I have Buttered Popcorn mixed with a magenta-colored Monarda, and daylily Dad’s Best White, which is also a very vigorous grower, for a brilliant, eye-catching combination that adds color to my vegetable garden. Make sure you have plenty of room for Buttered Popcorn to spread out, because it gets very large, and it may crowd out smaller plants.

I purchased 16 day lily plants from Oakes in July – 5 different varieties with multiples of each except Butter Popcorn. I wasn’t sure about it so I thought I would “try one”. I planted them all in late July/early August and couldn’t wait for next summer to see the blooms. Well, to my surprise, Buttered Popcorn bloomed – big – in September. I was over the moon. But imagine my sheer shock when I just went outside and noticed new buds on it – on Oct 25th – in ZONE 5a!! I am ordering more to extend my bloom season! I love Oakes!

It is mid-October in central Ohio and I counted 85 buds on my Buttered Popcorn. Second bloom seems amazing this year. Can’t believe its such a late season bloom!

I just received these plants and the roots are huge! Very good deal and was happy to have about 5 fans per plant. They are in the ground and look very healthy. Also loved my free Mary Todd! Can’t wait to see them next year.

Planted 48 Buttered Popcorn daylilies along a 56′ length of white picket fence in the fall of 2007. The first summer of bloom was good but only a hint of what was to come. Every summer, the plants have become larger and the bloom count is enormous. The color is really a yellow gold and is as brilliant as the sun. This spectacular planting attracts many viewers and compliments. Most of all, it makes me happy!

I am thrilled with this daylily. I split it upon arrival, and it bloomed just a bit its first year. Now, its second year, each plant is huge and the blossoms just glow. They aren’t yellow, they aren’t orange – it’s an indescribable color that stops you in your tracks.

Best yellow rebloomer ever in zone 9, SW Florida, average initial bloom set per plant is 60+. Blooms hold color well even in bright, direct sun. A real winner!

My Buttered Popcorn is only on it’s first cycle of blooms, but it is lovely! Huge, bold blooms make it an eye-catcher. Lots of buds on the scapes for its first cycle. Great buy!

Buttered Popcorn is an almost unending bloomer during our growing season in zone 6. We have a raised bed in our side yard where they grow and can be seen from the street and a couple streets over. We get so many compliments on the tall scapes with the huge gold blooms, they just can’t be unnoticed in the landscape. Want some color from a hardy, easy to grow daylily? Buttered Popcorn could be the answer.

A great yellow…bright and solid. The first two years of this plant the color was a little disappointing. However, now, in its third year, the color is exceptional!

Buttered Popcorn is my all time favorite daylily. It has the best growth, the best bloom and rebloom, and the best long distance, look-at-me color! It’s one of those daylilies that’s really easy to divide, too.
