4" bloom, 24" tall, Early-Mid Season + rebloom, Evergreen

'Frankly Scarlet' daylily is a true classic.  This brilliant red daylily begins blooming in early to mid season and has outstanding rebloom. You’ll definitely see these brilliant red blooms off and on throughout the season. In fact, it often blooms past Thanksgiving in zones 9 and 10. (Yep. THANKSGIVING!)

Another great thing? These blooms don’t fade. Frankly Scarlet  is well known for its excellent sun tolerance and actually builds color intensity throughout the day!

Ken Oakes has a good friend and fellow daylily grower named John who lives in Los Angeles.  He is constantly commenting on how much he loves Frankly Scarlet and how it does well in his garden, so that’s a great recommendation if you live in a warmer part of the country.

As an early to mid season bloomer, we usually see the first of these gorgeous blooms in early June. If you are to our north, you’ll likely see them a few weeks after we do. If you live to our south, you’ll see them a bit before us. In our zone 7 garden, Frankly Scarlet has blooms around 4″ and grows on scapes around 2′ tall.

An evergreen daylily, this beauty can be grown in gardens across the country. As an All American selection, it has been proven to grow successfully no matter where you live!

HOW TO GROW DAYLILIES: Daylilies are very easy-to-grow. They like a lot of sun and they like a lot of water. For more information on how to care for daylilies, click here.
WHAT DAYLILIES CAN I GROW: Most of you can grow any of the daylilies we sell. If you live in an area with a sustained cold period like we do in East Tennessee, you can grow all the varieties. However, If you live in an area that doesn’t get freezing weather in the winter (like zones 9 and 10), dormant varieties won’t work for you; you’ll need to choose evergreen or semi-evergreen varieties.

BIG PLANTS! When it comes to daylily plants, bigger is better! All of the plants we ship will be three fans or larger — two or three times (or more) what you might receive from other companies. Larger plants get established faster and bloom more quickly!

FARM-FRESH TO YOU! All of your plants will be freshly dug when you order. The leaves are trimmed and the plants are washed and air-dried. Your daylilies will be out of the ground less than 48 hours before they’re headed your way.

BONUS DAYLILIES: We send free daylilies (we call them “bonus” daylilies) with every order. These daylilies are equal to about 20% of your order, you get to choose what you’d like at checkout.

ABOUT US: Oakes Daylilies is a family-owned daylily farm that’s been in business for three generations. Our daylilies grow in home gardens, city parks and botanical gardens across the nation– including Hawaii and Canada. We are known in the industry as Daylily Experts and grow over 1000 varieties of daylilies on nearly 70 acres in East Tennessee. But over 50 years ago, we started just like you—with one daylily in a home garden.

This is one of my favorites for several reasons. I love the color, it blooms for a long time, and it handles anything nature throws at it without missing a step

Planted in 2020 and bloomed profusely this year! Did not fertilize at all. Took this pic of the flower and look at all the buds! Lovely addition! Recommend!

Frankly Scarlet in Deep South Texas

    BBohl (verified owner)

Puts up with the South Texas heat. It has lots of blooms with good foliage, usually rev looms in the fall. Resistant to rust which is a plus down South…

  5. Perfect Red

    Barbara Warren (verified owner)

I planted Frankly Scarlet in my Fleming Island FL garden on 3/20/20. I have very few red flowering plants and prefer to use them as sort of an exclamation point among softer shades. I’m so glad I chose Frankly Scarlet for this spot in my small, zone 9 garden. No reblooms yet, but I know this daylily will be even better with age.

I purchased Frankly Scarlett for my Plano home last year. The deep red is beautiful. When we moved this was one that came with us to Prosper TX. The deep red is incredible and very eye catching. This is one of my favorites.

    Little and Bright

    Ron Cowan

I have had Frankly Scarlet for several year now. It is a wonderful bloomer and I can always depend on it with it’s bright red flowers. It does great in a pot. I have one in the ground and one plant in a pot. It’s one of my favorites.

A beautiful and stunning red daylily!

    ecasg5

I ordered the evergreen collection and Frankly Scarlet was part of it – I don’t love red daylilies but this one …..this one took my breath away. It’s striking and eye catching and just perfect. It’s not a huge red daylily but what makes it incredible is the deep red color. I live in the lowcountry of SC with heat and humidity everyday – this daylily thrives.

    I want more!

    Lindsey (verified owner)

I love this girl! It’s the very best red of any daylily. This is her first bloom season and it has been the best first year performance ever! There were multiple strong scapes, and several blooms opened together to put on a great show. The pretty foliage is just a bonus! I can’t wait to see what she’ll do next year!

    Frankly Scarlet thriving in Loveland!

    Diane (verified owner)

Wow, deepest, prettiest red with dark red highlights. Bloomed year one in my Colorado Garden (with difficult soil), and is blooming its head off in year 2! Foliage very pretty, and is full sized/nearly full sized this year. First to bloom in my garden, too.

    Love Frankly Scarlets!

    Cool Springs, TN

I love my Frankly Scarlets! I was skeptical about daylilies when I first ordered, but was encourage by a friend. I’m converted now. I received these as a bonus plant, and they’re now among my favorite flowers. The Frankly Scarlets are among the first to bloom, have a long bloom period, which is great with a small garden area. They’re in a shaded area with morning sun. They glow with a ruby-red that draws the eye immediately and look great with golden oregano in front. It gives me great pleasure each time a new bloom opens. I’m in zone 6a.

This is the deepest red I have in my garden and I love it. The color is not “scarlet” per se, more a deep crimson. Mine hold their color all day in the hottest part of an East Tennessee summer. A reliable bloomer that reblooms nicely. At only 2 years old mine already need dividing.

This is new to my garden. So far I’m very impressed! One note on color: The blooms are not what I’d call scarlet . The look to me to be a dark brick red. The hue is lovely and mixes well with terra cotta colors. The texture is velvety and plush looking. I highly recommend this one.

Stunningly beautiful blooms! Scarlet would be pleased at having this daylily named after her. Bloomed her little heart out last year through the hot and dry summer here in southwest Missouri. We’re looking forward to another show this season.

Did not bloom the first year I planted (2005), but this year has made up for it. The color in the picture looks like a brighter red. The color is actually deeper and more sophistacated. Color stays true all day. The foliage is also very attractive when it is not in bloom.

I bought a Frankly Scarlet mid-summer after it’s first bloom. The second bloom was spectacular and it has shoots on the flower stems also so you get bonus plants if you start them. Just today I finished planting two rows of Frankly Scarlet with a center row of Yellow Explosion. My neighbors thought my lilies were pretty last year! Can’t wait until next year!
