7″ bloom, 28″ tall, Mid Season, Dormant

The quintessential example of a “classic” spider (defined as having petals 5 times as long as they are wide). Makes a great display in the garden, with lots of big, colorful blooms. Good, also, as a contrast to more traditionally shaped varieties.

HOW TO GROW DAYLILIES: Daylilies are very easy-to-grow. They like a lot of sun and they like a lot of water. For more information on how to care for daylilies, click here.
WHAT DAYLILIES CAN I GROW: Most of you can grow any of the daylilies we sell. If you live in an area with a sustained cold period like we do in East Tennessee, you can grow all the varieties. However, If you live in an area that doesn’t get freezing weather in the winter (like zones 9 and 10), dormant varieties won’t work for you; you’ll need to choose evergreen or semi-evergreen varieties.

BIG PLANTS! When it comes to daylily plants, bigger is better! All of the plants we ship will be three fans or larger — two or three times (or more) what you might receive from other companies. Larger plants get established faster and bloom more quickly!

FARM-FRESH TO YOU! All of your plants will be freshly dug when you order. The leaves are trimmed and the plants are washed and air-dried. Your daylilies will be out of the ground less than 48 hours before they’re headed your way.

BONUS DAYLILIES: We send free daylilies (we call them “bonus” daylilies) with every order. These daylilies are equal to about 20% of your order, you get to choose what you’d like at checkout.

ABOUT US: Oakes Daylilies is a family-owned daylily farm that’s been in business for three generations. Our daylilies grow in home gardens, city parks and botanical gardens across the nation– including Hawaii and Canada. We are known in the industry as Daylily Experts and grow over 1000 varieties of daylilies on nearly 70 acres in East Tennessee. But over 50 years ago, we started just like you—with one daylily in a home garden.

  1. Simply Bee-autiful!

Kindly Light’s bright, clear yellow and simply shaped spider petals is gorgeous next to the purple garden phlox in my new pollinator garden. I planted in late March (zone 8) and the first bloom appeared the last week in May. Good height plus big blooms the very first year? That makes me happy. The bees and butterflies are happy, too. I’ll be ordering more Kindly Light.

This is one of our favorite daylilies. Spider varieties are so unique and demand attention! We live in North Carolina, zone 7. They come back year after year, strong and resilient! The blooms are much larger than your hand! You will LOVE it!

I agree with each of the previous reviews. Kindly Light is a truly outstanding daylily. Even planted next to another yellow, due to its form and size, is spectacular. We have a few hundred daylilies, but have given space to three of this variety, grown in different sections of the garden.

Stunning! In its first year Kindly Light is putting on quite a show. Multiple simultaneous blooms on a relatively small first-year plant. The petals are like yellow ribbons with a hint of gold — not as rigid as those shown here. The blooms are every bit of 7 inches in diameter.

The most fun you can have with a daylily! A star of the garden every year. Holds its own with strong colors.

One of my absolute favorites of all-time! I didn’t order this daylily – I received it as a free bonus with an order, and I immediately fell in love with this one. Now I wouldn’t want to live without it in my garden! I highly recommend Kindly Light!
