Mary’s Gold Daylily Features:

‘Marys Gold’ daylily is a true classic. A common comment in its many reviews (be sure to check ’em out!) is that it is much more beautiful in person. It’s true: a brilliant gold, pictures can’t do this beautiful flower justice. Always one of our most popular varieties due to its beauty and reliable bloom.

Huge 6 1/2″ bright gold blooms are held on tall scapes close to 3′ in our East Tennessee garden. No way you can ignore these! A mid-season bloomer, we typically see Mary’s Gold in mid June here on our zone 7 farm. If you are to the north of us, you can expect to see it bloom a bit later. Those of you to our south will see it a couple weeks before we do.

A dormant daylily, Mary’s Gold performs best in planting zones that get a sustained cold period in the winter.

Brilliant gold blooms are gorgeous en masse but also look stunning when planted with lavender or dark purple. When planted with near white daylilies it looks so elegant. Plant it with red, orange or hot pink if you want to add some extra spice to your summer garden. You cannot go wrong with Mary’s Gold!

Winner of the Award of Merit and the Lenington All American Award.

HOW TO GROW DAYLILIES: Daylilies are very easy-to-grow. They like a lot of sun and they like a lot of water. For more information on how to care for daylilies, click here.
WHAT DAYLILIES CAN I GROW: Most of you can grow any of the daylilies we sell. If you live in an area with a sustained cold period like we do in East Tennessee, you can grow all the varieties. However, If you live in an area that doesn’t get freezing weather in the winter (like zones 9 and 10), dormant varieties won’t work for you; you’ll need to choose evergreen or semi-evergreen varieties.

BIG PLANTS! When it comes to daylily plants, bigger is better! All of the plants we ship will be three fans or larger — two or three times (or more) what you might receive from other companies. Larger plants get established faster and bloom more quickly!

FARM-FRESH TO YOU! All of your plants will be freshly dug when you order. The leaves are trimmed and the plants are washed and air-dried. Your daylilies will be out of the ground less than 48 hours before they’re headed your way.

BONUS DAYLILIES: We send free daylilies (we call them “bonus” daylilies) with every order. These daylilies are equal to about 20% of your order, you get to choose what you’d like at checkout.

ABOUT US: Oakes Daylilies is a family-owned daylily farm that’s been in business for three generations. Our daylilies grow in home gardens, city parks and botanical gardens across the nation– including Hawaii and Canada. We are known in the industry as Daylily Experts and grow over 1000 varieties of daylilies on nearly 70 acres in East Tennessee. But over 50 years ago, we started just like you—with one daylily in a home garden.

Received my order yesterday! SUPER quality! Packing impeccable! Delivery fast! Received a bonus Lilly of “Mary Todd” and was so excited as I’ll be taking these back to Florida and was planning bright yellows, oranges, corals, white and deep pinks with chartreuse and it will blend so nicely! What a wonderful surprise! I really want ALL OF THEM! Deciding which ones is so difficult that I’m planning to just keep adding different ones monthly! Than you for these lovelies

I bought Mary’s Gold, Mauna Loa and Chicago Apache to plant around the metal clothesline pole. Mary’s Gold is so tall and HUGE and bright! I live in the country and these can be seen very well from the road. This is the first year they’ve bloomed as we planted late last season, they seem very happy where they are planted and are sturdy. So glad I decided on these, they are perfect t!

Got this as a bonus plant it is so beautiful that it stands out among all of the daylilies. Large BRILLIANT BLOOMS that really catch the eye and beckon you to come over here and take a closer look at me. Pictures don’t do justice to Mary’s Gold you just have to see one in person and then you will be astonied how beautiful she really is

    Everybody loves flowers

but a lot of us get disappointed in buying wee little annuals for 5.99 each at the big box store that you have to water everyday and have to bend over to see the bloom.
You might see the 9.99 for one flower and be tempted to say “too big a gamble”.
Believe me when I say “Money’s worth plus!” There are actually at least 3 in one bunch!
And where could you get 3 huge plants with gorgeous golden yellow blooms that you can’t take your eyes off of!~
I ‘ve had a lot of daylilies (smaller varieties, reds, creams, yellows) and I’ve given a lot of them away so I could make room for these golden beauties.
There is no blooming plant that is more beautiful.

I received Mary’s Gold this spring from Oakes as my free gift plant, and it is already a becoming one of the most impressive daylilies I have. The blooms are so big and bright! Very good branching, gorgeous gold color, a real show stopper.

None of the blooms pictured for this lily do it justice. I have had my Mary’s Gold for three years now. She grows 28-30 inches tall on substantial stems. The blooms are so large, thick and profuse that lesser stems would actually not hold them upright. We have been watching her bloom all summer, and have had several days where there were two blooms open. I have taken pictures, but today’s blooms were phenomenal. They were so large and so rich that I had to take my tape measure out to check. I could hardly believe that they measured 8″ wide. Eight inches and so heavily budded that there was hardly room for the next buds waiting to pop tomorrow. The color??? Breathtaking!

I started with my passion for daylilies when i moved into my first house 27 years ago. There were daylily clumps in the backyard in the shade which never bloomed. The lady next door informed me that I needed to put them in the sun. So i did and the next year I was rewarded with a double orange flower. Next thing you know I go to the Phila flower show and discover there’s a whole big world of day lilies out there! So I ordered from a catalogue. Then i discovered there was a day lily grower about an hour away from me. That where I saw them in bloom. Row upon row, a diversity I’d never imagined. I chose two and they were freshly dug for me. Mary’s Gold and Punkin. Well they became School Bus and Punkin. They all have names, my beech was Fergus Riverside and so on and so forth. I started learning the Latin names as to get what I wanted. And, that was how I did it. Back in the day the labels weren’t always correct. Today it’s better. Any how when we moved up here i brought forty of my daylilies with me. Plus some roses and hostas. Some of the stuff I had you don’t see around any more. Mary’s Gold is the most reliable outstanding lily I’ve ever seen. Last year my two plants had 60 flowers apiece on them. I have to fluff then so all can open.

The only drawback to Mary’s Gold is I had to stake four scapes. However, getting four scapes on a first year bloom is a nice bonus. The flower is advertised big and beautiful. Mary’s Gold is a 10 and a definate keeper.

Just bought Mary’s Gold last spring, based solely on the description and reviews, and the fact that I can never get enough of the brilliant golds and yellows. Need I say this was not a disappointment? Even in the first season, had generous blooms and they are just as bright as sunshine. Everything to love about this wonderful plant.

It has bloomed here in its second year and is just spectacular. It has already multiplied. The scapes are so tall that they reach right up to the clematis growing next door. I was surprized to see such a bright color and it is loaded with buds.

One word describes this daylily. Spectacular!! I probably have at least 50 varities of daylilies in my perennial gardens but Marys Gold is by far my favorite. The flowers are very large and bright. You do not have to look for her as she is a standout. A must have if you like big and bold. Love,Love,Love!!

I agree with the descriptions…..this flower has to be seen to be believed. I planted it and many others late this past winter…I was out of town last week and returned to find it in bloom yesterday (May 28, 2004). You can see the flowers a mile away, and it is the most brilliant yellow/gold I’ve ever seen in a flower. A must have, and I’ll order several more this fall.

I have had this daily only one year but in that year it multiplied well and was just spectacular. It bloomed very well and the height of stem and color of bloom was wonderful. If I could have only a few dailies this would be one of them.
