An early season daylily, we first begin to see the beautiful blooms of Paper Butterfly around the first of June. If you are to our north, you’ll see them a bit later than we do. If you live to our south, you’ll see them a couple of weeks before us. Good rebloom means they’ll be seen off and on throughout the season.

Paper Butterfly is a semi-evergreen daylily. This means it can be grown in gardens across the nation.

Plant this beauty on its own, or pair it with bright orange and dark purple daylilies for added garden pizzazz.

HOW TO GROW DAYLILIES: Daylilies are very easy-to-grow. They like a lot of sun and they like a lot of water. For more information on how to care for daylilies, click here.
WHAT DAYLILIES CAN I GROW: Most of you can grow any of the daylilies we sell. If you live in an area with a sustained cold period like we do in East Tennessee, you can grow all the varieties. However, If you live in an area that doesn’t get freezing weather in the winter (like zones 9 and 10), dormant varieties won’t work for you; you’ll need to choose evergreen or semi-evergreen varieties.

BIG PLANTS! When it comes to daylily plants, bigger is better! All of the plants we ship will be three fans or larger — two or three times (or more) what you might receive from other companies. Larger plants get established faster and bloom more quickly!

FARM-FRESH TO YOU! All of your plants will be freshly dug when you order. The leaves are trimmed and the plants are washed and air-dried. Your daylilies will be out of the ground less than 48 hours before they’re headed your way.

BONUS DAYLILIES: We send free daylilies (we call them “bonus” daylilies) with every order. These daylilies are equal to about 20% of your order, you get to choose what you’d like at checkout.

ABOUT US: Oakes Daylilies is a family-owned daylily farm that’s been in business for three generations. Our daylilies grow in home gardens, city parks and botanical gardens across the nation– including Hawaii and Canada. We are known in the industry as Daylily Experts and grow over 1000 varieties of daylilies on nearly 70 acres in East Tennessee. But over 50 years ago, we started just like you—with one daylily in a home garden.

  2. IMPRESSED! Lovely Large Blooms!

    stefanie_gifford (verified owner)

Planted these last fall and we have blooms this year in May! This was our first daylily bloomer of the year and we are extremely impressed by the color, size, and height of the blooms. Photo attached below. The color is a gorgeous melon/salmon, with a deeper purple accent surrounding the throat. The color combo is beautiful in the garden. And it matches well with the other purple daylilies we have. These are a great value and highly recommend.

What a gorgeous daylily Paper Butterfly is. I’ve had it growing in my garden for several years now, and I look forward to this bright and beautiful daylily every year. Paper Butterfly blooms so profusely in early July – with blooms that are like butterflies fluttering in the breeze… If you’re into hybridizing, Paper Butterfly makes for a wonderful pod parent too.

Picture is the first bloom of Paper Butterfly (in 2016). Planted Spring of 2015 and this is it’s first flower! Big and pretty! Growing well and has had more blooms!

I bought this daylily in spring of 2009 but it did not bloom that first year. Now in its second season it has several very strong scapes and the first beautiful blooms opened yesterday (July 12th – making it a mid season bloomer in Colorado). They are just gorgeous and really show well in my garden!! Love it!

I received this one for Mother’s Day a month ago, planted it immediately in a large pot on my front patio. This morning, I came out to find it’s beautiful first bloom opened! It’s big, eye-catching, and just gorgeous! There are several more buds on it just waiting to pop over the next several days. I’m amazed at how quickly this bloomed after planting it!

I’m redoing my daylily beds this year so have most of mine in pots temporarily. They’re all doing exceptionally well (rain and Miracle Gro!) but Paper Butterfly is outstanding! Many blooms open at one time (six this morning)and several well-budded scapes. This one’s a definite keeper!

Beautiful flower, just as described. I’ve only had one bloom so far, but am looking forward to more as the plants grow larger. It is truly an eye-catcher!

‘Paper Butterfly’ is slightly paler than the photo, more of a peach with purple eyezone. Really eye-catching. A good bloomer.

This is a bloom that really grabs your attention. It is large and flashy. The best thing about it aside those gorgeous blooms it is a heavy rebloomer. A wonderful addtion for any garden.
