* 6″ bloom, 30″ tall, Early-Mid Season + rebloom, Evergreen

‘Russian Rhapsody’ daylily is one of our most popular purples. A very early bloomer in our garden with good rebloom off and on throughout the season. Large, 6″ deep purple blooms have an even deeper purple eyezone around a yellow throat and grows strong on scapes around 30″ tall in our East Tennessee garden.

You’ll see in the comments that we had some concerns about the picture accuracy, so we’ve added additional photos as of July 2013. As you can see, the color varies. The photos with the most vibrant color were taken in our display garden, where Russian Rhapsody is planted in the shade (we did not adjust the color). In the sun it can look more mauve or violet, and like many (if not most) daylilies, the shade of color and intensity will change through the day.

Winner of the Award of Merit and the Lenington All American Award.

Russian Rhapsody is an early season daylily which means we typically see its first bloom around the first of June. If you are to our north, you’ll see it a few weeks after we do. If you live to our south, you’ll see it a couple of weeks before us. Good rebloom means you’ll see these unforgettable blooms off and on throughout the season.

As an evergreen daylily, Russian Rhapsody can be grown in gardens across the country.

Pair this beauty with bright yellow, bold gold, striking orange or lovely lavender daylilies for extra pizzazz in your garden.

HOW TO GROW DAYLILIES: Daylilies are very easy-to-grow. They like a lot of sun and they like a lot of water. For more information on how to care for daylilies, click here.
WHAT DAYLILIES CAN I GROW: Most of you can grow any of the daylilies we sell. If you live in an area with a sustained cold period like we do in East Tennessee, you can grow all the varieties. However, If you live in an area that doesn’t get freezing weather in the winter (like zones 9 and 10), dormant varieties won’t work for you; you’ll need to choose evergreen or semi-evergreen varieties.

BIG PLANTS! When it comes to daylily plants, bigger is better! All of the plants we ship will be three fans or larger — two or three times (or more) what you might receive from other companies. Larger plants get established faster and bloom more quickly!

FARM-FRESH TO YOU! All of your plants will be freshly dug when you order. The leaves are trimmed and the plants are washed and air-dried. Your daylilies will be out of the ground less than 48 hours before they’re headed your way.

BONUS DAYLILIES: We send free daylilies (we call them “bonus” daylilies) with every order. These daylilies are equal to about 20% of your order, you get to choose what you’d like at checkout.

ABOUT US: Oakes Daylilies is a family-owned daylily farm that’s been in business for three generations. Our daylilies grow in home gardens, city parks and botanical gardens across the nation– including Hawaii and Canada. We are known in the industry as Daylily Experts and grow over 1000 varieties of daylilies on nearly 70 acres in East Tennessee. But over 50 years ago, we started just like you—with one daylily in a home garden.

    Russian Rhapsody - Gorgeous and reliable

    This is the first dayliIy I ever bought and still the most reliable here in zone 9. It’s evergreen here, blooms profusely, requires minimal care and is just gorgeous. If anyone could buy just one daylily (as if!) my choice would be Russian Rhapsody hands down.

    I ordered three. Oakes sent me four huge clumps, one of which was so enormous it made two. So that’s five big daylilies for the price of three and I mean BIG! Meanwhile I ordered three another purple variety from a “reputable competitor”, they sent me three tiny little things, two of which failed to survive. I asked for replacements, they “couldn’t do that” and sent me two of yet another, less preferable, purple variety and not so much as a bonus marigold seed! I’m never doing business with anyone but Oakes, ever again. When these bloom I will post pictures, but… I mean, I think it’s just as important to review how they start out, as how they end up!

    I really like this daylily. Planted this spring in some of the harshest conditions. Bloomed beautifully – great eye catching color – not one blemish on the foliage so far. Being its first year, didn’t reach the expected size but had lots of gorgeous blooms. This one is going to be a stunner for years to come.

    Love this beauty. From year to year, I tend to forget just beautiful it is and am pleasantly surprised each time to realize just how striking it is. Such a big bloom also.
