Yellow Pinwheel Daylily Features:

‘Yellow Pinwheel’ daylily is a delightful addition to any mid to late season garden.  Huge, 8″ cheery lemon yellow blooms are held high on scapes that reach around 32″ in our East Tennessee garden. A nice light fragrance accompanies this pleasant daylily.

A mid to late season bloomer, we typically see the first of these big, bright blooms around mid June. If you are to our north, you’ll likely see it a couple of weeks later. If you live to our south, you’ll get to see it a few weeks before we do. A light fragrance accompanies the bloom and adds another pleasant layer to the garden.

A dormant daylily, this cheery beauty is best grown in gardens that get a sustained winter cold period, like those in zones 8 and lower.

Yellow Pinwheel is absolutely stunning when planted with deep purple or near black daylilies. Try it with a daylily with a bright yellow eyezone for added punch in the garden.

Yellow Pinwheel is one of five daylilies in our Jumbo Collection. If you love big blooms, you’ll love this collection!

HOW TO GROW DAYLILIES: Daylilies are very easy-to-grow. They like a lot of sun and they like a lot of water. For more information on how to care for daylilies, click here.
WHAT DAYLILIES CAN I GROW: Most of you can grow any of the daylilies we sell. If you live in an area with a sustained cold period like we do in East Tennessee, you can grow all the varieties. However, If you live in an area that doesn’t get freezing weather in the winter (like zones 9 and 10), dormant varieties won’t work for you; you’ll need to choose evergreen or semi-evergreen varieties.

BIG PLANTS! When it comes to daylily plants, bigger is better! All of the plants we ship will be three fans or larger — two or three times (or more) what you might receive from other companies. Larger plants get established faster and bloom more quickly!

FARM-FRESH TO YOU! All of your plants will be freshly dug when you order. The leaves are trimmed and the plants are washed and air-dried. Your daylilies will be out of the ground less than 48 hours before they’re headed your way.

BONUS DAYLILIES: We send free daylilies (we call them “bonus” daylilies) with every order. These daylilies are equal to about 20% of your order, you get to choose what you’d like at checkout.

ABOUT US: Oakes Daylilies is a family-owned daylily farm that’s been in business for three generations. Our daylilies grow in home gardens, city parks and botanical gardens across the nation– including Hawaii and Canada. We are known in the industry as Daylily Experts and grow over 1000 varieties of daylilies on nearly 70 acres in East Tennessee. But over 50 years ago, we started just like you—with one daylily in a home garden.

Second time is not a charm

This is a replacement (yea customer service) for the same plant that did not return from last year. Last year’s was just the same, one nice yellow bloom and then it disappeared over the winter. As you can see, there is not a lot of foliage, as was the case last year too. We’ve had lots of rain this year and others are growing well. This bloomed early but I’m afraid it’s going to be another dud. This is not the same place it was planted before and this was was given LOTS of nice garden soil.

I doubt this will make it through the winter

What is your hardiness zone? Zone 4

Received this as a bonus plant. It had one bloom and it was a lovely yellow. But there are very few leaves and it seems to be not very vigorous. It’s in a wonderful sunny location and has had plenty of water. Very disappointed with this plant.
