Bill Oakes began collecting daylilies in the 1960’s. In the 1970’s, Bill and his son, Stewart, started selling them straight from their garden and from the back of their pick up truck. Today, Oakes Daylilies has grown from a few varieties grown in a small backyard garden to over 1000 varieties grown on 80 acres. Ken Oakes, Stewart’s son and Bill’s grandson, oversees the family mail order business and ships to daylily lovers across the world. Not only growers, the Oakes family are also hybridizers. Since the 1980’s they have introduced over 30 varieties to the daylily world.
