* 6" bloom, 36" tall, Early-Mid Season, Dormant

One of our favorite purples. A rich purple with a deeper purple halo around a vibrant yellow throat. Slightly ruffled edges and a faint midrib on the petals. Fragrant.

Purples are a challenge to photograph - too much shade and they can look dull (or, ironically, too vibrantly purple), too much sun and they take on a reddish tint. You'll see a variety of shades of color in the pictures, which reflects photos taken at different times of the day, and in different conditions of sun and shade. You'll see in the comments below that folks call it a "royal purple" and a "very deep purple", which sounds about right to us.

Starkville, MS — Starkville, MS This is my first time to order from Oakes and I could not be more happy with the price I paid, the fast and friendly service, and most of all the plants. I planted them the day after I received them at the end of May and I have already had tons of flowers from these plants. It amazed me that they produced shoots and buds within about 5 days. I am ordering more!

Corry, PA — There is a reason almost everyone gives Wayside King Royale a 10/10! Absolutely Beautiful! i split my clump into two halves last year and they're both pretty good size with each having three scapes full of blooms! if you are looking for a purple day lily, look no further!

Ashley, IL — This gorgeous beauty was one of my first to bloom and is still blooming 2-3 flowers daily. It is as vibrant and sturdy as any of my daylilies. The color stays bold even during the hot midday sun.

Indianapolis, IN — My favorite purple - it's planted next to a few yellows and it looks great. I enjoy every single bloom!

New Tazewell, TN — I cannot even begin to say how much I love this flower! The color is absolutely stunning! Very deep purple but really stands out. The green throat makes it really pop! Lots and lots of blooms on very high scapes! This flower is a must buy!!!

Galva, IL — First year to bloom and it had many flowers and all were picture worthy. Mine tends toward a royal purple. Very velvet and contrasts nicely with other colors. Didn't loose it's color or surface in sun or rain.

Louisville, KY — This purple ties with Strutter's Ball. Love them both! Similar in color and performance.

Minneapolis , MN — Zone 4a. This daylily is not purple as described by Oakes but a deep burgundy wine. If you're expecting the color of Wayside King Royale to be like the purple of Supertunia Royal Velvet, you will be disappointed.

I planted WKR last fall. Oakes' shipment was most generous and I ended up dividing it into five fat fans. The first bloom arrived on June 20, followed by 50 more over the next 19 days.

It's in a west exposure where it gets all-afternoon sun, but it doesn't fade.

Timberlea, NS — My Wayside King Royale isn't in bloom yet (first year since I planted it last summer) but if the number of buds and branching) on 4 scapes is anything to go by, it has to be an outstanding plant. I can hardly wait for the first bloom to open. I'm giving it a 10 based on form, not having seen the blooms... It's certainly coming along like any good daylily should.

Birmingham, AL — Absolutely gorgeous! Purchased this one when my husband indicated that he would like to see a purple daylily in our garden. I planted it in late spring 2009 so didn't get a bloom, but it has grown to quite a large clumb, and now this season it has MORE than pleased us. Covered in blooms, covered in buds promising more blooms. The color is like velvet, so rich and luxurious. My husband loves it and now wants me to get more purples. But it would be hard to beat this beauty.

St Ignace, MI — Wayside King Royale is definately my favorite daylily. Planted in part-sun this plant amazes me every year - more and more of the most beautiful blooms I've seen. Gorgeous!

McMurray, PA — While maybe not a show stopper for me, Wayside King Royale is still a quality good looking purple. It blows away Super Purple and Vino De Notte which I planted from another grower. Next year it will be side by side with Chicago Sunrise.

BRANDON, VT — This daylily is absolutely beautiful! The color is true to the picture but more beautiful in the garden than you can imagine. Many compliments on this one. Stunning!

Longmont, CO — Planted just this spring, this one is blooming already in July with its deep purple and yellow throat! Lovely

Scotland, CT — I get a lot of comments from this one. I grow it next to my deck stairs in full sun along with white yarrow, which makes it really stand out. It is a very rich purple on tall, strong scapes. You won't be disappointed with this one.

Montrose, MN — One of my favorites and definitely a show stopper. Bring your camera. Large flowers on strongs stems. I'm partial to purples, wines, reds and this one really shows its true colors.

    Highly recommend this one.

Circleville, OH — This daylily is a nice deep dark burgundy. The color holds well in the sun. Very pretty!
